In a time when sedentary activities, such as screen time, are increasingly attractive, the risk is that play and movement are given less and less space.
To understand the real situation, we at Leo’s have surveyed 2,000 parents with children between the ages of two and ten about their children’s play, movement, and screen habits. The scope and focus of the Play and Movement Report make it one of the most comprehensive studies of its kind in Sweden today.
Play – Iimportant for imagination, cooperation, and development
In the report, we asked Daniel Berglind, Associate Professor of Public Health Science, to share his perspective on the importance of play. To gain insights from an educator’s perspective on movement, we also invited Jennie Nobelius, Chair of the Swedish Association for Physical Education Teachers, to answer questions.
“At Leo’s, we know that play is about so much more than entertainment. It is a crucial part of children’s motor, social, and emotional development. Play helps children collaborate, build confidence, and understand the world around them. Movement also strengthens the body and prevents health issues in the long run.” – Joakim Gunler, CEO and founder of Leo’s Playland.
The report summarizes a wealth of important insights with the aim of highlighting the significance of play, movement, and motor skills. Our goal is to drive change so that play and movement once again take a high priority in politics, society, business, and among parents.
