• Leo's play and movement report

In a time when sedentary activities, such as screen time, are increasingly attractive, the risk is that play and movement are given less and less space.
To understand the real situation, we at Leo’s have surveyed 2,000 parents with children between the ages of two and ten about their children’s play, movement, and screen habits. The scope and focus of the Play and Movement Report make it one of the most comprehensive studies of its kind in Sweden today.

Play – Iimportant for imagination, cooperation, and development

In the report, we asked Daniel Berglind, Associate Professor of Public Health Science, to share his perspective on the importance of play. To gain insights from an educator’s perspective on movement, we also invited Jennie Nobelius, Chair of the Swedish Association for Physical Education Teachers, to answer questions.

“At Leo’s, we know that play is about so much more than entertainment. It is a crucial part of children’s motor, social, and emotional development. Play helps children collaborate, build confidence, and understand the world around them. Movement also strengthens the body and prevents health issues in the long run.” – Joakim Gunler, CEO and founder of Leo’s Playland.

The report summarizes a wealth of important insights with the aim of highlighting the significance of play, movement, and motor skills. Our goal is to drive change so that play and movement once again take a high priority in politics, society, business, and among parents.

How we at Leo’s contribute to a more active generation

The joy of movement, step by step

During a visit to Leo’s Playland, a child takes an average of 11,600 steps.

    Developmental play

Our obstacle courses and climbing structures are designed to help children develop motor skills, build strength, and improve balance.

    Social interaction

Our activity areas encourage cooperation, problem-solving, and social engagement with other children—key components of child development.

    A break from screens

At Leo’s, children can be active and present without distractions from screens.

What can you do to contribute to a more active generation?

We believe that change happens when we all contribute together.

    Are you a parent?
Prioritize play and movement in everyday life. Encourage active play and find a balance between screens and physical activity.

Do you work in a school or preschool?
Make movement a natural part of the school day by incorporating more playful activities and inspiring environments both indoors and outdoors.

Do you work in local government?
Invest in building and improving playgrounds and sports areas that are accessible to all children, regardless of where they live.

    Are you a decision-maker?
Integrate physical activity into urban planning and actively work to reduce inequalities in children’s access to movement.

So far this year, children have moved over 6,7 billion steps with us

At Leo’s Jungle, there are thousands of square meters of play areas where children can run, play, and explore. The best part? They’re moving without even thinking about it, averaging 11,600 steps per visit! Our attractions are suitable for all ages – climb volcanoes, dive into the ball pit, or slide down a waterfall.
